One of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's films, 'Lateef', which he shot for over six years ago, is due for release on May 15. The actor, however, is said to be not too happy about it. Sources say he has washed his hands of his old project and does not want to promote it as he feels the makers are piggybacking on his recent success.

Before Nawaz was noticed in 2012 with films like 'Kahaani', 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Talaash', he had acted in several small budget films, including 'Lateef'. After being part of the Salman Khan-starrer 'Kick' (2014), he now perceives himself in a different league, says an insider.

'Lateef' director Israar Ahmed states he has been trying to get in touch with the actor, but in vain. “We are told he is busy. We hope he can take time out to promote the film as he plays the title role.”

The director adds, “At that time too, Nawazuddin charmed everyone with his histrionics. He was a one-take actor. His character in the film, which was earlier titled Reality: The Fact, is that of an aspiring doctor who falls prey to the drug mafia.”

Ahmed reveals the project was lying in the cans for all these years due to production issues.

Nawazuddin, who is presently shooting in Kashmir for the Salman Khan-starrer 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', chose not to comment on the issue.

Incidentally, several of Nawaz's films like Buddhadeb Dasgupta's 'Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa', Nikhil Allug's 'The Maya Tape' and Ketan Mehta's 'The Mountain Man' are yet to see the light of day.
