When the director of a film is also the producer, writer as well as the lead actor, things are bound to get a bit messy on the celluloid. Playing one role in Hindi film industry is demanding enough and multi-tasking is not everybody's cup of tea. Well, welcome to Bollywood, Prateek Chakravorty

Movie review: From Sydney With Love

Though From Sydney With Love takes you to Australia and back, the journey is barely memorable. The plot ultimately enters a college with a bunch of Indian students coming from different background. What follows is a series of inevitable melodrama due to a predictable love triangle and several futile attempts at capturing the audiences’ attention. There are moments when only the foreign locales soothe your eyes.

In terms of humour, Prateek’s character is funny and a far cry from the six-pack-abs-strutting hero but lacks the pull. Maybe the idea was to entertain without working hard on the basic elements needed. Editing could have been sharper as unnecessary sub-plots makes the film a yawn-fest.

The biggest drawback of this film is poor writing accentuated by ceaseless hamming. Not having a big name in the cast may sound like an excuse as that factor, in fact, might have contributed to the film’s advantage. Only Sharad Malhotra and Sabyasachi Chakraborty come the closest to the definition of acting. Catchy dialogues and music are painfully missing too.

There’s no point in watching this film unless, of course, you’re reviewing it. And coming back to Prateek, he needs to come up with far better scripts if his intention is to carry forward the legacy of his late granddad, producer Pramod Chakravorty.u00a0
