Three years after he first kicked off his record label, EMI Records, to help aspiring artistes make a mark in Bollywood, filmmaker Mohit Suri is set to launch a digital streaming service to further his bid. VYRL Originals will offer independent singers, music producers, lyricists and composers a chance to come under the spotlight by providing them with a sizable production platform for their creations.
Suri tells mid-day, "I often come across tracks from talented musicians, ones that don't feature in films. We want to help independent musicians, and also revive the indie music space in the country. The songs will get the same treatment that Bollywood tracks do." Suri, we hear, will zero in on existing numbers and offer the creators a chance to reproduce the track on a bigger scale. Teri Yaad, composed by Ajay Vas, will be the first to feature on the platform. The love ballad, about seeking forgiveness, has been rendered by Yash Narvekar, who previously worked with Suri on Half Girlfriend (2017).
Interestingly, while created on the lines of YouTube and Saavn, VYRL Originals will also promote the artistes on these two platforms as well. Collaborating with the bigwigs will enable the artistes to reach out to a global audience. A source tells mid-day, "Mohit is selecting the artistes and tracks that will feature on the platform himself. He is also mentoring the musicians."
