Deepti Naval convinces Rituparno Ghosh to give up the idea of shooting it in Bengali

Deepti Naval's next, Memories In March, which also happens to be the acting debut of Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh, is releasing soon.

The film was originally supposed to be shot in English and Bengali but the veteran actor convinced the debutant director to shoot the film in Hindi instead of Bengali.

The film will release in India and the United States on April 1

The director Sanjoy Nag reveals, "There are three central characters Raima Sen, Deepti Naval, Rituparno Ghosh.

Deepti plays an art curator who comes from Delhi. Originally we had thought even her character will speak in Bengali since the film was in Bengali and English."

The director adds, "It was very nice of her that she agreed to do the film. We had told her the story on the phone. She said she would pick up Bangla without a problem.

When she came four days prior the shoot of the film and the next day I realised that it will be a major hindrance and hurdle if we insisted her to speak Bengali.

I felt then her entire concentration would be on getting the lines correct more than the acting.

And I had mainly cast her for acting. I am a great fan of her acting skills. So I didn't want to compromise on that."

"So the next logical step was to make the film in Hindi and English.

The film is largely in English but we have changed the Bengali dialogues to Hindi So the entire film is changed to except for two small sequences of Raima's parents conversing in Bengali.' The director sums up.

Wasn't it difficult for other actors to switch to Hindi? "No, Raima is very comfortable with Hindi and Rituparno was made to speak in Hindi on purpose. He picked up Hindi , but is speaking it in the same way a Bengali would.

"The film is releasing in India and US on April 1 and the director is not stressed about coming out with other Bollywood biggies. "It's a niche film so no worries. Each film has its own audience." He signs off coolly.
