After featuring in Rajesh Pillai's thriller, 'Traffic', also starring Manoj Bajpayee and Jimmy Sheirgill, earlier this year, Kitu Gidwani has now bagged a role in Karan Johar's upcoming romance-drama, 'OK Jaanu'. To be helmed by Shaad Ali, the film features Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor in leading roles with Gidwani essaying the role of the mother of the young actress.
Says the 49-year-old, "I play the role of a contemporary woman, a mod mom, who keeps urging her daughter to follow her heart. It will be an interesting role. Wait and watch."

The actress, who has enacted smaller parts in a gamut of films, including Dhobi Ghat (2011), Student Of The Year (2012) and Wedding Pullav (2015), was a popular face on Indian television during her formative years, having been seen in serials like Air Hostess, Swabhimaan and Junoon "But there's no place for me in these saas-bahu sagas," she says, when we ask her about her return to the small screen.
Says a source close to the actress, "People who have grown up watching Doordarshan still remember Kitu for her free-spirited roles. Even in OK Jaanu, she will not be seen as the quintessential Bollywood mother. Also, since it is a Karan Johar-production, she will also get noticed."
OK Jaanu is the official remake of Mani Ratnam's 2015 Tamil film, OK Kanmani, and will also be co-produced by KJo.
