Keep things simple, silly

"Life is complicated, so keep love simple," is Dia Mirza's mantra.

And while the actor is comfortable talking about love, she still remains tightlipped about her love life, refusing to comment on her reported relationship with director Sahil Singha.

But she does confess to being a diehard romantic. Dia, who is busy shooting for a rom-com these days, talks to CS about the highs and lows of being in love:

Great minds think alike

If you want to keep things simple in love, you need to be with a person who is likeminded. He doesn't have to be your clone, but at least should share the same values as you do. If not on the same line, you need to be on the same page when it comes to love. Most of the times, the best friends that we choose are a lot like us. I think we should apply the same logic to our life partners as well.u00a0

On a man hunt

When I was younger, my idea of love was very different from what it is now. Red roses, balloons and candlelight dinners worked for me. But now that I'm older, I'm drawn more to intelligence, values and what lies beneath the surface. What excites me in a man is his mind, his capacity to gel with people and his social behaviour. After a certain age, small things start to matter a lot.

The nicest thing that a man can do for his lady is to care for her small needs, like hold her hair back when she throws up or be there by her side all night when she isn't well. And these aren't just fancy ideas, I've had a very fine gentleman do this for me.

A partner who understands his responsibility is truly worth your while. I have met very few men who would help you lay the table and clear it without being asked to do so. That's a real man for me!

There are also many creeps out there. One of my friends' told me about an experience that she had. She was standing over a bar counter at a pub when a guy walked up to her, asked for a glass full of ice and then threw in on the floor and said, 'Now that the ice is broken, can I buy you a drink?' If someone tried that with me, I would run the other way.

That don't impress me much
I am not easily gullible when it comes to men. When I was younger, I had a great need for male security in life. But with age I have changed. Two years ago when I was single, I remember saying in an interview that one thing I would never want to do is to be with a man because I need him more than I love him.

I want to be with someone with whom I am ready to share my life with. When you overcome your own insecurities you find it easier to share your life with someone special.
