Why Anurag Kashyap apparently handed over the directorial reins of his TV show to Ribhu Dasgupta...
Over two years ago, Anurag Kashyap had produced a Naseeruddin Shah-starrer Michael that has yet to see light of day. Written and directed by debutant Ribhu Dasgupta (who was Anurag’s assistant during Gulal), the psychological thriller also starred Mahie Gill. The film was even showcased at the Toronto Film Festival in 2011.

Considering the film did not get a theatrical release, Ribhu’s career as a director never took off. To make amends, Kashyap has now entrusted the responsibility of directing his television show starring Amitabh Bachchan to Ribhu.
Though there are strict orders to the crew not to reveal anything about the small screen show, sources state Anurag has given a second chance to Ribhu.
Says a source, “Ribhu’s film never got released. Though Anurag spoke about the project at that time, later there was nothing on its front. There is speculation that apparently the film will never get a release.”
Adds the source, “Anurag is busy with the pre-production of his Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer, which will soon begin shooting in Sri Lanka. As he will be tied up, he has entrusted Ribhu with the responsibility of directing his small screen soap.”
Ribhu had great hopes pinned on the film that Naseer had signed after his portrayal of a common man in A Wednesday. The film shot entirely in Kolkata had the veteran actor essay a cop and it also looked at his relationship with his son. Purab Bhandare and Sabyasachi Chakraborty also feature in the film.
