Recently, filmmaker Karan Johar spoke out against actress Kangana Ranaut of playing the 'victim card' and 'woman card' after she accused him of being nepotistic. Now, an old video of the director has emerged online where he admitted being guilty of nepotism.
It all started when Kangana Ranaut said Karan Johar would be perfect to play a 'stereotypical Bollywood biggie, who is snooty and intolerant to outsiders' on his show 'Koffee With Karan'.
Karan Johar had laughed with Kangana Ranaut as she branded him the 'flagbearer of nepotism' on his chat show, but, in hindsight, the filmmaker probably felt it was not funny.
When KJo attended a session held by Anupama Chopra at the London School of Economics, he said he was 'done' with Kangana playing the victim card.
"I'm done with Kangana playing the woman and victim card. I am done! You cannot be this victim every time who has a sad story to tell about how you have been terrorised by the bad world of the industry. Leave it then," Karan Johar said.
"She was my guest and I had to hear what she had to say. When she says 'flagbearer of nepotism', I am glad she knows what it means, but I don't think she has (actually) understood its meaning. What is nepotism? Am I working with my nieces, nephews, daughters, cousins? What about filmmakers, not from the film industry, whom I have launched — Tarun Mansukhani, Puneet Malhotra, Shakun Batra and Shashank Khaitan. You give these people film careers and they have a platform to stand on and that's the reverse of nepotism," he added.

Now, an old video of Karan Johar has emerged where he admits being guilty of nepotism.
The video clip, from 2014, is from Anupama Chopra's show 'The Front Row' with Karan Johar, Deepika Padukone and Tisca Chopra.
The video shows Karan Johar talking about his 'Student of The Year' actors - Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan.
"I picked up a chubby girl... I saw something... And I can't lie. Maybe the fact that she is Mahesh Bhatt's daughter also excited me. Right now, I'd like to say no, but maybe back then, it was a really strong sub-layer. And that is nepotism and we're guilty. I'm guilty," said Karan Johar.
He added, "Would I have cast Varun Dhawan if he was not David Dhawan's son? Because he is David Dhawan's son, he was on my sets as an AD, and that's why I spent enough time with him and got to know that he can be a movie star."

"There are too many factors in this country that contribute to movie stardom, true talent is the least of them," said Karan Johar.
Tisca Chopra reacts to Karan Johar's admission saying, "That's so sad."
Karan Johar agreed and said, "It is truly tragic. Would I have been a filmmaker? I'm a producer's son. I had no experience. I was an assistant on one film. My father had the platform to give me and that's why I'm a filmmaker. And so if I go through any struggle in my career, I deserve it."
