Last month, Kangana Ranaut returned from the US after a two-month schedule for Hansal Mehta's Simran in which she plays a nurse-turned-bank robber. Sitting comfortably on the couch of her suite in a suburban hotel, where we met her, the actress confesses to have felt homesick.

"Two months is a long time. The initial few weeks are tougher; everything goes for a toss because of the time difference. But, as actors, we get used to where we are working because stories have the ability to pull us entirely into its weave," she says.

While she was away, gossip mills had been abuzz about her "ego tussles" with co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor while shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj's Rangoon. It was reported that she would flaunt her three-time National Award status (Fashion, Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns) and interfere with creative decisions, leaving the two heroes miffed. Kangana says she has read all that's been written about her.

"But I don't pay much heed to mischief-makers, whether they are contemporaries or competition. These mischief-makers are mostly unnecessary publicists who do everything possible to malign you and get you in trouble. I keep a watch on everything. If it's alarming and I foresee a bigger trap, I hit back. I don't care about bugs in the bed," she says.

Just minutes before stepping out of her hotel room to walk the ramp for Manish Arora's show at the Blender's Pride Fashion Tour, the actress sets the record straight. "I am different at work; I don't go in to the set wanting to party. As far as Saif is concerned, he is the classic man. I am a fan of his charms. He and Kareena (Kapoor Khan) have been extremely gracious to me. They hosted a dinner for me when I came down. I love their company.

"As for Shahid, we had a healthy partnership on set and I don't see any trouble between us. Of course, we weren't pally, which [is] probably [what] was misconstrued. People need to understand that we don't go to work to make friends."
