After the protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati escalated and Deepika Padukone received death threats from fringe groups, several female actors rallied in support of Dippy. They include Shabana Azmi, who is spearheading the drive, besides Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vidya Balan, Anushka Sharma and Parineeti Chopra among others. Those in the know say that when Kangana Ranaut was asked, she refused. Kangy has her reasons. One, she does not consider DP a pal.

Second, no one came to her rescue during her spat with Hrithik Roshan last year, so she feels no need to extend support to anyone. The female actors also have history. In 2014, DP had dedicated her award for Happy New Year to Kangana's performance in Queen. The latter had reacted by saying she'd have preferred if Deepika had personally appreciated it instead of speaking about it on a public platform. That's typically Kangana - frank and forthright.
