It's never easy to step out of the shadows of famous parents.
And when your father happens to be a legend in Bollywood, revered by his million Indian fans as God, stepping into his shoes successfully can be next to impossible.

Which is why we don't blame Abhishek Bachchan for playing it safe.

The actor, hear, has turned down the opportunity of emulating his dad in the remake of Hrishikesh Mukerjee's Chupke Chupke.
Confirms a source, "Abhishek has turned down the role of the scatter-brained Botany professor (played by the Big B in the original) in Sohail Maklai's remake of Chupke Chupke, as no matter how well he performs the role, he will be compared unfavourably with his father."
Can't replicate
In fact, Abhishek has no qualms in admitting his reluctance to taking on roles originally played by his famous father. "I'm very proud to be my father's son.u00a0
But I would rather not try to replicate his roles because, according to me, he has already taken his roles as far as they can go.

I don't think it's fair to compare my career to his. He's a phenomenon that happens only once in a lifetime.
Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan in Chupke Chupke
I'd like to believe every actor from this and earlier generations wants be like Mr Bachchan. Apart from being his son, I'm also his huge fan."
Contrary to the buzz, he was never interested in Karan Johar's new Agneepath either. Why would he take the risk of playing the mighty gangster Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, a character his father made famous!
Script changes
Unfortunately, his rejection of the role in Chupke Chupke has made life very difficult for Maklai.u00a0 He is now redesigning the script so that it becomes a two-hero project.

Says Maklai, "Bachchan saab comes into Chupke Chupke very late. Dharamji and Om Prakash have more footage.

We're looking into that." Only Rishi Kapoor has been zeroed in to play the role Om Prakash did in the original.
The other remake
The other remake of the 1979 Hrishida film Golmaal has gone into drastic re-writing too.
Says a source, "Since the remake Bol Bachchan is Ajay Devgn's home production, he's asked director Rohit Shetty, to contemporise both Abhishek and his roles, played originally by Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt.

The tussle between the two men will now be more on the lines of the cartoon characters Tom and Jerry."
