The producers of Ritesh Batra directed film feel left out with Karan Johar and UTV coming on board...
This seems to be a classic case of how too many cooks spoil the broth. One of the two initial producers of the Ritesh Batra directed film The Lunchbox has issued a public notice apparently after feeling that DAR Motion Pictures had been sidelining them on all matters pertaining to the film that even won accolades at the Cannes Film Festival.

Ritesh’s film had DAR Motion Pictures and Essel Vision Pvt Ltd as its original producers until UTV and Karan Johar came on board as presenters of the film. Says a source, “Essel Vision feels that since they were the ones who believed in the film in its initial stage and invested and backed the project, they should have been kept in the loop of the developments around it.
However, ever since big names like UTV and Karan Johar have joined hands to support the film, they have not been consulted for various decisions being taken. In case, the other producers still do not go by the rules, they might court legal trouble since Essel Vision has equal rights to the film.”
Nitin Keni of Essel Vision says, “We had two films with DAR Motion Pictures, which included D-Day and The Lunchbox. As investors and co-producers we want to ensure that our rights are taken care of and want to inform the trade about it.”
However, a spokesperson from DAR Motion Pictures denies rumours of any trouble between the two parties. “There are no issues between us. We are the best of partners and it is a small notice confirming arrangements between us. If there are any issues at all, we will sort it out,” he adds. u00a0
