"This is an apt decision of the government to appoint Anupam Kher who understands cinema at all levels as he himself has been a veteran actor and theatre person for three decades. And above all, he is an experienced teacher in drama and films. So I do believe that he would lead FTII and next generation in right directions with more power. I really wish him and FTII the best. India needs many more institutes like these directly under experts and academicians in cinema and creative arts to be a soft power in the world," said Subhash Ghai.
Anupam Kher was on Wednesday appointed chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India, Information and Broadcasting ministry officials said. Anupam Kher replaces Gajendra Chauhan, who had a controversial tenure as head of the Pune-based institute. His term had ended in March.
Anupam Kher took to Twitter to share his feelings on his appointment as new chairperson of FTII. He wrote, "I feel deeply humbled & honoured to be apportioned as the Chairman of iconic #FTII. I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities."
