Nineties band Euphoria is known for its romantic songs. But in his latest offering, lead vocalist Dr Palash Sen discusses how humans are slaves to their thoughts and that is the genesis of all fear.

The singer says it took him five years to complete the single, Kabootar. "I am proud of the song. I don't think anyone in the country has made something like this. I'm happy Euphoria keeps challenging themselves and the sensibilities of the audience," he says, when we meet him at the Artist Aloud office. What prompted the song's theme, we ask him.

"Indians feel trapped by situations and people. That could lead to depression or suicide. With this song and video, I have explained how fear is responsible for mental trauma. It's important to break the shackles and become fearless."

Dr Sen has used a caged pigeon as metaphor in the track. "Only the Kabootar could have been the perfect protagonist for a song like this. Most of our [Euphoria] songs are love tracks, but this was something different. Here, a pigeon personifies the human, and the cage is a symbol of fear."

The track explains how social media may be doing more harm than good to the current generation. "Social media needs to be used in a more positive way. While you can spread good news via WhatsApp or Snapchat, you can also start a riot on Facebook or Twitter," says Dr Sen.
