Star stylists Leepakshi Ellawadi and Tanya Ghavri tell you how to look like a star at a much lesser cost

Dress like a star

Many among us love to copy the outfits and styles sported by celebrities at red carpet events and shows. From dazzling gowns to towering heels, our actresses have the best of designers and brands at their disposal and their looks carefully curated by their stylists. Not to mention the moolah they splurge on the best of designer wear and high-streeet brands. Dresses, footwear and the bags they sport often cost over R50,000 are out of reach for most. Sad, but true.

Bollywood designers Leepakshi Ellawadi and Tanya Ghavri went shopping with us at Hill Road, Bandra, where we scouted items that will make anyone look like a diva at perhaps one-fourth or one-tenth of the price.

Leepakshi showed us how to get Shraddha Kapoor’s boho-chic look from the film, Ek Villain, while Tanya guided us on how to rock red carpet and event favourites like the classic all-gold avatar to the breezy blue maxi, and sporty jumpsuit at unbelievable prices.

Follow their tips for a star-like look and step out in style without burning a hole in your pocket. All you need is the zeal to sport the latest looks and an eye for good bargains!

Stylist Leepakshi Ellawadi has styled Amitabh Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Esha Gupta among others.
These pants are for R1,500, though you get cheaper versions for R500-700. The top is for R500 and available at stalls at Hill Road, Bandra

Leepakshi styled Shraddha Kapoor’s boho-chic look in Ek Villian. “I did not coordinate her clothes on purpose for a girl-next-door feel,” she says.

She says, “These bangles are a set of three, each costing about R100, which I picked up from Hill Road, Bandra.”

“I used a lot of turquoise. This necklace is around R300 and the earrings cost R200-300. The stole is for R120,” she says.

Red hot

A red lace dress is both sexy and feminine. Asin is seen sporting an embellished red Dolce and Gabbana outfit with suede heels with red accents.

Red Dress: While Asin’s red dress is short, our budget dress from Hill Road is slightly longer. It has a straight cut that makes it suitable for women with all body types, ranging from petite to slightly full. The lace all over the dress makes it look classy, too

white heels: White heels are a must in every girl’s wardrobe. It complements the red dress and doesn’t make the outfit look tacky. They also give an illusion of height to short girls.

Golden gal

Amrita Rao is wearing a Herve Leger gold foil bandage dress at a pre-award party. The gold ensemble is accentuated with bright red lipstick and sparkly heels.

Gold dress: This shimmering beauty is great as clubwear or for a cocktail party. It can even be worn with leggings

Catch it: The shimmering gold clutch completes the golden girl look

WALK TALL: These muted gold heels with lace go well with the gold dress. Gold-on-gold is a good combo if accessorising is kept to a minimum

True blue

The deep blue maxi donned by Tabu is informal, yet classy enough for an evening out

Blue Maxi: Great for daytime events, a blue maxi spells style and elegance. A maxi dress is suited to all body types.

White heels: A pair of white heels finish the look in a near perfect manner

bracelets: The chunky set of bracelets is a good accessory to match

Denim diva

Sonakshi Sinha is seen wearing a denim jumpsuit from Diesel and her ankle strap flats are from Zara

White flats: They go really well with the bright blue colour of the jumpsuit

Big-dial watch: This studded diamond watch is a fuss-free, chic accessory
