In her bid to play Rani Padmini in the upcoming 'Padmavati', Deepika Padukone trained in ghoomar - a native dance form of Rajasthan - under the tutelage of choreographer Kruti Mahesh. Known to be a perfectionist, Bhansali also roped in Jyoti D Toomar, who specialises in the art form. As the film's first song, 'Ghoomar', releases today, the actor will be seen reviving the folk dance.

Padukone trained for over a fortnight before shooting the number in November. Says Mahesh, "She trained with us for three hours every day before the shoot commenced." Mahesh says the dance that essentially focuses on the twirling movement (ghoomna), was a departure for Padukone from the usual dance styles in films. However, Padukone picked up the form fast. "The footwork is important in this dance. It took her a day to shift from what she has been doing so far, to what she was required to do for the song."
