Creating energy through art

He might be a printing technologist,u00a0 but he is great at capturing the invisible energy in lifeless objects. Pradeep Mahadeshwar who is holding his first solo exhibition 'Digital Pigments' till April 13, at Bajaj Art Gallery talks to CS about his first artistic tryst that has been inspired from his trip to London:

All for art
I work with film publicity designing firm 'Studio Link' as a creative head. Since my childhood I was curious about colours and always dreamed about paintings and poetry. Anybody can judge me by my paintings. My paintings will speak what I am. I am a lively person, and that's reflected in my work. At the same time there is a depth. I like to experiment with new things.

On show
I sense energy in everything around me, especially still and lifeless matter. Objects around me seem to speak to me. As an artist, I try to hear what it is and express it. So in a sense, I draw inspiration from the still and lifeless matter around me. The theme of my exhibition is 'Winter in London'. Various images that I photographed in London have been reconstructed by me. What I have tried to do is interpret the energy that exists in matter.

A chair, a stone, or for that matter, a tree has energy within it. I strongly feel that still or lifeless matter has a pulse and their presence matters to the surroundings. I have given it a voice and explained the same to the viewers through my paintings. After transferring a printed version on a big canvas I use a traditional method of painting. Screen printing is the final process and that is how I conceptualise my artwork. As of now I have started working on a subject. 'Summer in Mumbai' for my next show which is in London.

My inspiration
From a painter's perspective, I have been inspired by maestros like Satish Gujral, Raza and late Ramchandra Shinde. I love the presentations of Sunil Padval while Krsna Mehta's idea of expressing thoughts through colours is very unique.
