Actress-turned-human rights activist Celina Jaitly is being conferred the Harvey Milk Foundation’s Lilla Watson Global Champion medal at the annual Diversity Honors gala. The event in Florida today coincides with celebrations around the globe for Harvey Milk Day. The American politician became the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California.

The 2008 Hollywood film, Milk, was based on his life. Celina will be honoured for her advocacy and support for the LGBT rights movement in India. She is also an official champion of the United Nations Free & Equal Campaign.
