In the age of social media, fame can be a very fickle thing. Often sheer nobodies turn into stars thanks to their soaring online popularity and a star who is not seen or heard in social media might just disappear off his / her fans' radar. Social media has also been a breeding ground for celeb memes and jokes and on several occasions, these have gone on to become a rage among netizens.
Tiger Shroff recently said that he was glad to have permeated public consciousness even if through a series of jokes

So while Rajnikanth jokes being retweeted is perhaps not surprising, the popularity of Alok Nath's memes and jokes was news to many. Tiger Shroff is the latest entrant in the meme world.
We takes a look at few examples where celeb memes and jokes trending on social media firmly trained the spotlight on them:
Social media poked fun at Yami Gautam and her endorsement for a fairness cream
Alok Nath first rose to fame for his role in the 1987 television series, Buniyaad. The actor started his acting career with this stint on television and he then went on to star in Bollywood films where he invariably played the role of a family elder.
The actor's popularity zoomed on December 30, when memes and jokes, based on characters played by him, started trending on social media without any provocation.
The actor recollects that he was shocked to hear about this development. "I don't have a twitter account and I never imagined someone will take me on like this. Initially, I was wondering why would someone do this to me.
Alok Nath admits to laughing at memes and jokes about his onscreen characters
I was clueless about it till my kids told me about the same. It seems that a film starring me was playing on some channel and soon after, memes and jokes about me started floating on Twitter.
I thought a lot about it and now I know that it's not just about me. People will take on any celebrity to make fun of on a social media platform. I am used to it now and I even had a good laugh over this," he says.
Other meme stars
Similarly, actor Neil Nitin Mukesh started trending on his birthday (January 15). The actor, who's acted in many Bollywood movies, was a sport about the whole episode.
Neil Nitin Mukesh went on to re-tweet some of his favourite jokes about his name
Taking it with a pinch of salt, he declared on a social networking site, "Seriously laughing that I am trending. Some rather interesting ones (jokes) out there. Re-tweeting my favourites. Enjoy!" (sic)
After Neil, it was Yami Gautam's turn. The actress, who debuted in Bollywood with Vicky Donor, and is a brand ambassador for a leading fairness cream, shot to popularity in the social media world thanks to jokes about her fairness trending online. The actress, however, chose to not speak about it.
The latest celeb to be made the butt of jokes by social media enthusiasts is debutant actor Tiger Shroff. Jackie Shroff's son, who's all set to debut in Bollywood with Heropanti, was recently trending on a social networking site.
At an event held to promote his upcoming film, the actor spoke about the same. He said, "Achchi baat hain, Sir. If I am being talked about, then it's good for me.
As long as it's positive publicity, why not? And if you're laughing, then it's a good thing."
