12 November,2024 10:43 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentWhen Harman Baweja, son of producer Harry Baweja, made his acting debut he made much noise for his appearance. The actor made his debut with the futuristic film 'Love Story 2050 with none other than Priyanka Chopra. The film was released in theatres in 2008. More than the movies and his performance, Baweja made the most headlines and buzz of his striking resemblance to superstar Hrithik Roshan. To add to the looks, Baweja was also a good dancer which he got to display in his debut film. Harman Baweja's debut film was directed by his father and produced by his mother Pammi Baweja. The film was a box office failure. In 2009, he appeared in the film 'What's your Rashee?' opposite Priyanka. He also had the film 'Victory' in the same year. Both the films failed to impress at the box office. With back-to-back failures, even the buzz around him being a lookalike of Hrithik failed to help him to give a boost to his career. How Harman reacted to being compared with Hrithik Back in the day, Harman did not like being compared with Hrithik. "I refuse to agree that we look the same. Agar ek jhalak ki baat ho to phir ho sakta hai (a slight resemblance might be a possibility)," he said in an interview with Hindustan Times. During a music launch event for 'Love Story 2050', someone in the crowd shouted Hrithik's name when Harman took to the stage. Harman had spoken about it in another 2008 Hindustan Times interview. He'd said, "This person was not even invited for the function. He had gate crashed. It was planned and done deliberately. But all my friends told me that I behaved coolly, with dignity." He added, "This person was thrown out of the conference. Don't expect me to divulge his name though. I've asked my boys to get me his number. I want to call him and thank him. I was nervous before coming on the stage but his 'Hrithik.. Hrithik,' gave me the courage to talk to the media. I'm ready for anything and everything now." Harman Baweja returns with Scoop Now in ‘Scoop’ which is based on journalist Jigna Vora’s life and book, Harman is seen playing the role of JCP Harshvardhan Shroff. ‘Scoop’ is an Indian crime drama streaming on Netflix. In an earlier interview with mid-day, Baweja said, ““I feel that the media was absolutely unfair to me. When I had done my first few films, a barrage of harsh and mean things were written [about me]. It’s part and parcel of the business, but it hurts when it gets too personal. There were times when I’d make sure that the papers didn’t come home, or that my mom didn’t see them. I quit because effectively, things didn’t pan out the way they initially [appeared]. Today, the same family who avoided reading papers is now looking forward to the next article on me.”

12 November,2024 08:07 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentKal Ho Naa Ho is one of the most popular romantic films to have been produced by Karan Johar. As the film completes 21 years, Dharma Productions is releasing the film in theatres again, much to the delight of cine-fans who grew up watching Aman-Naina-Rohit's love triangle, dancing to 'Pretty Woman' and crying their eyes out in the climax scene. From the dialogues to music and the humour, there's nothing you don't love about Kal Ho Naa Ho. It is a touching story about love, friendship, and the unpredictable nature of life. Set in the lively city of New York, the film follows Naina (Preity Zinta), Aman (Shah Rukh Khan), and Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) as they go through a multitude of emotions. Shah Rukh’s portrayal of Aman, the cheerful and selfless romantic, still melts hearts. The beauty of the film lies in its emotional core. It is not surprising that Johar wrote the script while dealing with the grief of his father’s illness, adding to the movie’s emotional depth. The soundtrack by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with songs like Kal Ho Na Ho and Maahi Ve, is still loved and played even today. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dharma Productions (@dharmamovies) With its theatrical re-release, we bring up 5 reasons why this Nikhil Advani directorial will always remain a must-watch: The Title Song All the songs of Kal Ho Naa Ho are refreshing even today, but it's the title song that continues to resonate with the millennials. Sonu Nigam's vocals, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music, and Javed Akhtar's lyrics turned this melody into an anthem for all the broken hearts. The magic was further fueled by its leading man's magnetic charisma that pierced straight into the heart. This is one track from the bygone days that is best left untouched for a remix. The Hilarious Misunderstanding Kal Ho Naa Ho was one of the earlier Bollywood films to portray homosexuality, albeit in a comical tone. Rohit's domestic help Kanta Ben misunderstands his friendship with Aman as love due to her multiple encounters with their accidental physical intimacy. It was an uproarious gag that's even remembered today for how hilariously it was staged and performed. Aman's Heartbreaking Confession In one of the film's most important and moving scenes, Aman reads out the blank pages of Rohit's diary to soothe a furious Naina. His pretence fails as we sense this is his heart talking to the woman he passionately loves. His tears reflect the heartbreaking reality that his illness will never allow him to embrace her for a lifetime. The speech ends with this line- I'll love you till death and even after death. Who but Shah Rukh Khan could have made this believable? The Jolting Reality We are told about Aman's illness at the interval point, but Naina and Rohit discover this horror right towards the end. Aman never wanted Naina to know his brutal truth, but fate and Hindi cinema tropes would have never allowed that. They both meet in emotionally broken states and hug each other one last time. Naina may be getting married to Rohit, but somewhere deep down, you wanted this to be the film's end, and that too a happy one. The Last Encounter Aman is about to wave goodbye very soon, and Naina comes to see him. He cracks a joke, she smiles, and then goes out to weep uncontrollably. You, sitting in the cinemas, despite knowing the intention of emotional manipulation, cannot help but weep with and for her too. Aman tells Rohit Naina will be his in all his next births, and again, you cannot help but agree.

We suddenly see a group of children holding Indian tricolor arrive in the scene. Shaktimaan proceeds to quiz the kids about the revolutionaries and teaches them about Indian history through song. The video on YouTube has been titled- 'Successful return of SHAKTIMAAN with a GREAT PATRIOTIC QUIZ !!' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dwapar Promoters (@dwaparpromoters) Why Shaktimaan decided to return with patriotic song Mukesh Khanna believes Shaktimaan is not just an action superhero but also a super teacher. Talking to IANS at the song launch event, the actor recalled an incident. "I felt that in 1997, a lady came up to me and said, Mukesh ji, I am very thankful to you. I said, sister, what is the matter? She said, ‘I am very thankful to you’. She said, ‘My child started drinking milk because of you. He didn't drink milk. He didn't drink milk when he was beaten. Now he has milk three times. ‘Shaktimaan said that if you drink milk, you will become powerful’.” The actor added, “That made me realise the importance of Shaktimaan's teaching." He said that he brought an angle of Shaktimaan being a super teacher. “Which perhaps Shaktimaan will not be able to become in the future. I believe that my chemistry will not be the chemistry of Shaktimaan in the future. So, I have recorded a song. Through which I want to tell the children what is the name of the revolutionaries of our country.” About the superhero show Shaktimaan 'Shaktimaan' was created by Mukesh that aired on DD National from September 1997 to March 2005. The actor played the role of Shaktimaan and his alter ego "Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri", a photographer for the newspaper 'Aaj Ki Aawaz'. Kitu Gidwani, who was later replaced by Vaishnavi Mahant, played the role of Geeta Vishwas, a reporter who loves Shaktimaan. Surendra Pal played the role of Tamraj Kilvish.

12 November,2024 01:13 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentSuccess teaches you many things. It looks like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’s recent success has taught Kartik Aaryan that leading a franchise is a smart tactic to connect with the audience, a lesson he is applying to his next. mid-day has learnt that the actor is keen that his romantic drama—which was initially planned as Aashiqui 3, but then reimagined as a stand-alone film—be restored under the Aashiqui franchise. A lot has happened on the Aashiqui front since the third instalment was announced in 2022. At the time, Anurag Basu was to direct the Aaryan-led love story, with Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt producing it. However, a tussle began between the producers over the franchise’s rights. Finally, this March, the T-Series head honcho announced that he alone was backing the Aaryan-Basu project, which was rechristened Tu Aashiqui Hai and was no longer a part of the Aashiqui franchise. (From left) Anurag Basu, Kartik Aaryan, Pritam, Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt had announced Aashiqui 3 Now, Aaryan has apparently introduced a plot twist. A source reveals, “The success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3 has confirmed Kartik’s belief in the power of franchises. He has suggested to Bhushan that he initiate talks with Mukesh Bhatt to acquire the title. Kartik is certain that building the love story under the Aashiqui franchise will give it a push.” In 1990, Aashiqui made Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal overnight stars. Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor recreated the magic with Aashiqui 2 (2013), produced by T-Series and Bhatt’s Vishesh Films. Now, with Aaryan eager to lead the franchise, the source says that Kumar is figuring out the right way to take the matter forward with Bhatt. It’s one of the reasons the shoot of the movie, also starring Triptii Dimri, has been pushed to next year. “Anurag is anyway busy with the re-shoot of Metro… In Dino. With this new development, the project will only roll sometime next year. Kartik wants clarity on all aspects before he faces the camera,” says the insider. Franchises have been money-spinners this year, be it Stree 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 or Singham Again. Almost every star has a franchise film in their line-up—from Shah Rukh Khan having Pathaan 2 to Ranbir Kapoor greenlighting Animal Park. It only makes sense for Aaryan to join the bandwagon. Another source notes, “He will soon begin shooting Pati Patni Aur Woh 2. He is also keen to have a sequel to Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety [2018].”
