While Bengaluru is still reeling from the 'shameful night of 31st December', Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi created a furore by passing a sexist remark about the horrific incident. Responding to the shocking ‘mass molestation’ of women at Bengaluru on New Year’s Eve, the politician blamed the victims for the incident.
Blaming modern women for wearing short and revealing dresses, Azmi brazenly said, “If my sister or daughter goes out with another man to celebrate the New Year and her father or husband is not with them, do you think she will be safe? I don't think so.”
He went on to compare women with sugar and petrol and added that where there is sugar, there will be ants and that petrol will always attract fire. He said, "You have to keep petrol away from fire. And if there is sugar, ants will come automatically to it."
The remarks upset Bollywood personalities and celebrities have come out to protest Azmi's comments.
Actors Richa Chadha, Taapsee Pannu, Varun Dhawan, Farhan Akhtar and many others slammed the politician's insensitive remark on Twitter.

Please don't wear a shirt. Wear a kurta-pajama or dhoti. Let's stop westernisation. https://t.co/LflTVC5GJD
