Yesterday, mid-day had reported about an existing dispute over the rights to eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani's biopic with producer Raj Khan claiming the 94-year-old had transferred the rights to Soha Ali Khan's production house, Renegade Films, after having previously given him the nod.

Now, Jethmalani's son, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani has denied the allegations. "It's all rubbish. The rights to the biopic were given to Soha's team long ago," he told mid-day, laughing off suggestions that he will fight his father's case, should it reach court. "It's too trivial," he shrugged.

Claiming that he would drag Jethmalani to court, Khan had told mid-day, "I have sent notices to Jethmalani and co-producer Ronnie Screwvala as well. I have had the rights to Jethmalani's film for over three years and have invested a lot of time, money and resources into making this film."

Shweta Bansal, who is representing Soha, and advising Jethmalani's team, said, "[A legal notice was served] to Soha's team, and copies to the other parties. Soha and Kunal have exclusive media rights to his life. His [Khan's] accusations have no merit. In fact, Jethmalani has issued a letter stating that except for them, nobody else has the rights to either a film, a web series or any other media content on him."

In a letter shared by Bansal with mid-day, Jethmalani's team writes that Khan "has no life rights from me but wants to make the movie based on information in the public domain. The movie will have no inputs from me."
