After two successful outings together — Student Of The Year (2012) and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) — Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt have delivered yet another box-office hit. Badrinath Ki Dulhania has collected Rs 55 crore in its opening weekend, which spanned four days.
While the Friday collections were Rs 12 crore, the film witnessed growth on Saturday and Sunday, with a business of R14.25 crore and Rs 16.05 crore, respectively. On Monday, however, the numbers took a slight dip — R12.08 crore — on account of Holi, the festival of colours when people prefer to spend time with their near and dear ones.
Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi says, "Despite the exam season and focus on election results, the film is a winner. The movie has done well across single screens and multiplexes."
Trade analyst Komal Nahta credits Varun and Alia for the success of the film. "The youth loves the pair. Alia proved her versatility last year with her choice of films [Kapoor & Sons, Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi]. Varun, on the other hand, has been flop-proof so far."
