Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar have teamed up for Kesari, a film based on the 1857 battle of Saragarhi between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen. Yesterday evening, Johar took to Twitter and wrote, "Mega film announcement coming up... watch this space."

Later, he shared the film's poster and wrote, "Excited to see this exceptional and brave story unfold." While Akshay tweeted, "A film I'm excited about personally and emotionally. Kesari releasing Holi 2019." The project was announced early this year with Salman Khan and KJo as producers, but somewhere down the line, Sallu opted out of the project. Ajay Devgn and Randeep Hooda are also planning films respectively on the same subject.
