Chapman
Chapman (USA)

A low-budget independent feature filmed in and around Aspen, Colorado. Chapman is a searing glimpse at adolescent love, wounded relationships, and facing the wreckage of a checkered past as Alex returns home to face the demons left behind after a tragic incident that scarred a childhood relationship.


Jin

Young 17-year old Jin is fleeing an armed organisation in the mountains and spends solitary days in the mountains and forests hiding both from organisation members and from security forces. She finds solace in the company of animals. Finally reaching the plains, she finds them more dangerous than the mountains. So she returns deeply disillusioned to her solitary existence in the mountains but finds herself caught between toppled trees and dismembered animals as the shells and bullets rain down. Now, JÎN has no one but the trees and animals to nurse her wounded body and soul.


Pyaasa

Unemployed Vijay is the youngest in his family consisting of his widowed mom, and two brothers. His passion is poetry - frowned upon by his brothers - who want him to find gainful employment instead. Vijay's poems are quite radical in which he laments about the poor, the destitute, and the arrogance of the rich after the departure of the British from India. His efforts to get them published are in vain. He takes to drinking, gets in trouble with the law, is disowned by his brothers, ends up at a brothel and befriends a prostitute named Gulabo. Gulabo is sympathetic, listens to him as he pours his heart out, and decides to assist Vijay. Watch what happens when Gulabo approaches some of her affluent clientèle to assist Vijay and try and get his work published, without revealing that they are written by an alcoholic, disheveled, homeless man.

Apur Sansar

Apu is a jobless ex-student dreaming vaguely of a future as a writer. An old college friend talks him into a visit up-country to a village wedding. This changes his life, for when the bridegroom turns out to be mad, Apu's friend asks him to become the husband! After initial revulsion at the idea, Apu agrees. Apu takes his exquisite bride, Aparna, back to Calcutta. But Aparna dies in childbirth, Apu leaves Calcutta, crazy with grief, and his son Kajal is left abandoned with his wife's parents. Only after a long period of total indifference to worldly responsibilities, does Apu become capable of returning to the world.

Rock the Casbah

A film based on the backdrop of the Israel-Palestinian war based in 1989, the first Intifada. Eighteen-year old Tomer, a soldier stationed in Gaza, is sent to avenge the death of his fellow soldier and comes to some realisations about the political and existential situation.

A girl in her teens, an eight-year-old boy, and a father suddenly disappear. When fourteen-year-old Myrto learns her father has fled to avoid paying his debts, she kidnaps the son of his business partner whom she blames for making her father’s joiner’s workshop bankrupt. Memories resurface as she wanders through the aisles of the workshop, where she hides her victim between stacks of spruce, oak and ebony. Myrto waits desperately for some sign that her father is alive, entertaining perfidious, sadistic fantasies about her young prisoner.

A Bollywood buff and wannabe actor Sunny gets kidnapped by an Islamic terrorist group after being mistaken for an American crew member. The story revolves around how the Pakistani owner of the house who sells pirated Hindi films and Sunny find out about their common human and cultural bond. This makes them help Sunny in returning to his country. The film shows how cinema can be the universal panacea for co-existence.

Belli Kiranaa (India)

Munna Pasha, a Muslim teacher in a girl's school in Shimoga, lives with his mother Ruksana and sister Munni. His best friend is bank employee and devout Brahmin Manjunath living with his mother Venkamma. Manju takes Munna under the assumed name of Gopala to see Malini, a final year degree student and daughter of orthodox Brahmin Mahabal Bhatta who has been chosen for Manju. But she falls for Gopala, even after learning that he is a Muslim and even moves into his house. Will this lead to a conflict between friends?

Madhumati

While driving his car on a rainy night, Anand's car breaks down, and he goes to seek shelter in a nearby house. He is let into the house by the servant, and he is permitted to stay until the rains stop be able to get his car fixed. It is here that he will find out about his previous birth, his true love, Madhumati, their ill-fated, star-crossed and tragic romance, and how events in his previous birth are going to affect him in this life-time.

Alikn Sukh (India)

A doctor is negotiating a deal for a luxury apartment for himself and his wife and cannot rush back to deal with an emergency because of a traffic jam. When his patient dies after developing complications following a caesarean delivery, her militant family members hold the doctor responsible and smash up the nursing home. Added to this is the fact that his wife believes he is guilty of negligence. When advised by a practical colleague to settle out of court, he wonders what effect it will have on his relations with his wife.
