A hug so warm
Nothing stole headlines like the Shah Rukh-Salman hug at Arpita Khan's sangeet ceremony in mid-November. Sure they had hugged at a politician's iftaar party earlier this year, without seeing eye to eye though. But the one at Arpita's wedding seemed warm and genuine which was followed by a long chat through the night. Their hug flooded social media with memes and jokes, too.
Oh dulhaniya
When Aayush Sharma and Arpita Khan decided to get married, little did they know that the knotty affair would end up being the wedding of the year. The industry's top stars turned up for the nuptials in Hyderabad where a lot of filmi drama took place. Most talked about was Salman Khan addressing his ex-flame Katrina Kaif as a 'Kapoor'. And also the kaleera falling on Sallu and Kat, separately though. The Khans were said to have gifted the newly weds a plush flat off Carter Road, which is close to their Galaxy Apartments in Bandra.
Plunging low
A storm broke out in mid-September when an English daily tweeted, "OMG: Deepika Padukone's cleavage show" along with a video clip that had a voyeuristic view of the actress' cleavage. An anguished Dippy lashed out at the newspaper on social media. The daily, on its part, addressed the criticism by telling her that she should be flattered by the comment. However, the row got uglier, much to the amusement of netizens.
Tenant troubles
Priyanka Chopra faced landlady problems this year when the police raided a spa operating from her 3,000-sq ft flat in Versova for fronting a flesh trade racket. While three women were rescued, the manager was arrested. The actress has slapped a legal notice on the spa owner, who is now absconding.
Sex scandal
On August 31, Tollywood actress Shweta Basu Prasad was arrested by the Hyderabad police for her alleged involvement in a high-profile prostitution racket. The actress, who won the National Film Award as a child artiste for Makdee (2002), was said to have admitted to the charges during police interrogation. But the actress later clarified that her so-called statement about getting into prostitution to support her family and some other good causes was a rogue scribe's attempt to malign her and her family. Shweta is now a script consultant for Anurag Kashyap's production house.
No nudity, please
Aamir Khan's upcoming movie 'pk' created a stir with its first poster, which featured the actor in the nude, his modesty saved only by a transistor. Aamir maintained that it wasn't for publicity and "imbibed all the elements of the film". The makers, accused of promoting nudity and vulgarity, were taken to court but the case was dismissed. Not willing to takeany more chances, Aamir made sure to cover himself up in the second poster.
400-crore divorce?
Pic/Sayyed Sameer Abedi
A quintessential hulk and a beautiful interior designer fell in love at a traffic signal and stepped into the happily-ever-after chapter of their lives — until they shocked their fans by announcing an end to their 17-year-old relationship in December 2013. Hrithik wrote, "If her smiles are brighter without me, my love for her must accomplish that," while Sussanne called it, "our own individual choices". Soon, there was buzz that Sussanne had demanded a staggering Rs 400 crore in alimony, but the star debunked the rumours on social media.
Not a pretty picture
Preity Zinta dated businessman Ness Wadia for almost five years and also co-owned a cricket team with him. So, it came as a surprise to all when she filed a police complaint against him, alleging that he molested, abused and threatened her inside Wankhede stadium during an IPL match. While some thought it was a cry for money or publicity, Preity bravely stuck to her guns.
Kiss of love
After steadily refuting rumours for a year, cricketer Virat Kohli melted (and broke) hearts of many young fans when he blew a kiss to girlfriend, Anushka Sharma following his half century against Sri Lanka last month. The actress reciprocated with a standing ovation. Talk about making it public in style!
