'mid-day is an important character in the film'

A host of Bollywood celebs attended the mid-day Premiere Nites at PVR Cinemas, Juhu, on Wednesday evening. The contest, arranged by mid-day, gave its readers an opportunity to watch 'Gour Hari Dastaan: The Freedom File', along with its star cast.

The event was attended by the who’s who of Bollywood including Deepa Sahi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Rajkummar Rao, Gaurav Gera, Gaurav Chopra, Swara Bhaskar, Rajeev Kaul, Sana Khan and Sharbani Mukherjee. Other actors of the film such as Tannishtha Chatterjee, Vikram Gokhale and Bharat Dabholkar made their entry well before the show.

In the biopic, Vinay Pathak essays the role of Gour Hari Das, a freedom fighter, who fought for three decades for a certificate that recognised his work as a member of the Indian struggle for independence. When asked about what made him take up this role, he said, “This is a dream role for any actor. It will appeal to the mind and vision of popular audience. It is a struggle for me to find a good script every day.”

Girish Wankhede of PVR Cinemas and head of Entity One, the co-partners of the event, said that he instantly fell in love with the film and that’s what made him take up its marketing and distribution.

Bharat Dabholkar, who plays the role of the chief minister’s security in-charge in the film, said, “I was keen to be a part of the project from the time I realised that there was good talent on board. It was an instant yes from me. Even though it is a small role, it will leave an impression on young minds.”

Ananth Mahadevan, director of the film, said, “mid-day is not just a partner, but an important character in the film as well. It were mid-day journalists (played by Ranvir Shorey and Tannishtha in the film) who believed in Gour Hari Das and supported him in his fight to get the Freedom Fighter’s certificate from our government. mid-day and Das’ character run parallel to each other.”

When asked to pick his favourite scene, he said, “It is that of a neighbour who doubts Gour Hari Das and flicks an expensive pen from his house, but returns it after he realises the truth, and says, ‘Yeh pen mere liye bhari padegi’.”
