Looks like Sreesanth's lucky charm, a triple nine engraved diamond-studded platinum coin, has once again worked its magic
Looks like Sreesanth's lucky charm, a triple nine engraved diamond-studded platinum coin, has once again worked its magic. First it got him an entry in the Indian cricket squad and now a back door entry to the World Cup as he replaced fellow pacer Praveen Kumar. Sree or Gopu, as he's known among friends, who is gearing up to dazzle cricket lovers, talks to CS about his love for jewellery:
Gold glory
I love wearing jewellery. I'd be lying if I say that I don't. Most of the jewellery that I wear is for religious reasons, but I'm a South Indian and so gold is something that I have been wearing since childhood. The first jewellery I ever wore was a gold chain with a deity's pendant.
It was gifted to me by my mom and it is the best piece of jewellery that I own till date. One jewellery piece that I really want someone to gift me is a scorpion pendant. It is my sun sign and I am a true scorpion at heart.
But it's fun to gift my family. When I was in Kimberly in South Africa for IPL, I got diamonds for my mother and sisters. My ten-year-old niece too wants a diamond now, so I'll gift her one soon.u00a0u00a0

There are a lot of myths attached to men wearing jewellery. But a peep in our history and you will find that it was kings and the royalties that had maximum gold on them. Also, gold and silvers were currencies earlier, so it has been a man's area of interest even then. It is just off late that jewellery has become women's forte.
I think men can really carry off jewellery like bracelets, rings and chains very well. Almost every cricketer wears a chain. The fact that we can't wear rings on our fingers because we might sustain injuries while playing; that is why a lot of married cricketers wear their wedding rings on their chains.

Next to jewellery, what is dear to me is grooming. I like to be upto the mark. And if that's metrosexual, then yes, I am a metrosexual man. I like to follow the season's trends. So you'll probably see me sporting purple, violet and red these days. You'll find a lot of girls wearing these colours too. I've been experimenting with a purple tie, instead of my red tie, which I love wearing on a black shirt. So if you think that I'm being metrosexual once again, so be it!
