Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan is a classic example of how even the most inspiring stories can die a cruel death in the hands of a bad, er, horrid filmmaker and his team.

The film is a horrendously amateurish attempt at chronicling the life of India’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri

Debutant director Milan Ajmera attempts big and comes out with a huge mess. This is supposedly a biopic on the dynamic, immensely respected freedom fighter and the second Prime Minister of independent India, Lal Bahadur Shastri. Shastri, as we know, stood for his principles of simple living and shining honesty even while holding important positions. This great man from a poor home rose to positions of power by the sheer dint of his passion for the country and the solid integrity of his character.

Unfortunately, this film instead of bringing out even an iota of this great statesman’s inspiring story, comes out with a laughably amateurish and unbelievably boring, carelessly put together film that keeps you squirming in your seats from the word go. Everything, from direction to performances to background music to editing to cinematography, contributes to making this an immensely intolerable film.

Even the presence of otherwise accomplished actors like Om Puri and Prem Chopra couldn’t help this sinking film. In fact, it looked like these actors were doing someone a huge favour by being part of this atrocity.

If you are a Lal Bahadur Shastri fan and revere history, don’t waste your sentiments on this film. A primary school skit is put together with more finesse.
