THE HIDDEN STORY BEHIND THE MEWAR CONSPIRACY: Rrashima Swaroop Verma's Latest Book Is a Page-Turner You Won't Want to Miss!

The Mewar Conspiracy

Historical narratives have undoubtedly secured an important place in popular literature with readers clearly showing keen interest in understanding the past. The intrigue of a bygone era has the ability to captivate imagination, in ways that few things can. That intrigue, that fascination can best be explored through storytelling that is as riveting as it is well researched. Bestselling author Rrashima Swaarup Verma’s new book The Mewar Conspiracy is one such epic tale.

The Mewar Conspiracy has been represented by the country’s leading literary agency The Book Bakers and published by one of India’s biggest publishing houses Srishti Publishers and Distributors. The book chronicles a highly engaging tale from 17th century Indian history, a tale of love, war, valour and sacrifice. Narrating the story of Princess Charumati of Kishengarh, Rana Raj Singh of Mewar (the great-great grandson of Maharana Pratap) and the sixth Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, the book’s plot will have its readers turning the pages until the very end. With a plot and characters that are enthralling and riveting in equal measure, and the beautiful settings of 17th century Rajasthan as well as the erstwhile walled city of Shahjahanabad, the book is a sure shot page turner. The in depth, intense research that the author has conducted to bring the story to life, is evident from the exhaustive list of references at the end. Her narration and descriptions of time and place are so compelling that readers will feel as though the story is unfolding in front of them.

The Mewar Conspiracy was officially launched on the 9th of November at the Vasant Vihar Club in New Delhi by a stellar panel comprising ace literary agent Suhail Mathur, leading publisher Arup Bose, Editor in Chief Stuti Sharma Gupta, historical researcher and hotelier Diwan Gautam Anand and historian Dr. Shankar Kumar. There were also several journalists, book reviewers, educationists, podcasters and bestselling authors present at the event. Following the launch and panel discussion, a rapt audience wholeheartedly participated with their questions and observations. The icing on the cake was the mesmerizing book trailer designed by The Book Bakers. The fact that the book sold out within minutes was evident of how well the story had struck a chord with readers and history buffs.

Since then, the book has shot to the top of the bestseller charts on online platforms as well as at bookstores. It has been receiving rave reviews from readers, reviewers and the media and has also been featured at bookstores, airport stores, and literary festivals. ‘This is the kind of story that gives us pride in our past,’ said one young boy at the Shikshantar School Literary Festival where The Mewar Conspiracy was prominently displayed. ‘I am a Rajput and I cannot wait to read this,’ he added as he bought his copy and went to get it signed by the author. She in turn, looked ecstatic at the tremendous interest that the book had generated at the school among young readers.

‘It is a highly enriching experience for me, bringing these wonderful stories to life again,’ said the author. ‘The idea of The Mewar Conspiracy was brought to me by my literary agent Suhail Mathur. He was the one who also gave me the story for my first historical non-fiction book, The Royal Scandal. It is a tremendous honour for me to be able to tell these tales. After all, our history is as rich as it is diverse. I am extremely grateful to my literary agent Suhail Mathur, my publisher Arup Bose and my editor Stuti Sharma Gupta for their support and guidance. And of course, my readers. Their love and support mean the world to me.’

The author is now geared up to work on her next book. ‘This time I am working on a story from a different era of Indian history. Nonetheless, this one too will be equally riveting. I cannot wait to begin the research. Delving into the past is truly an extremely absorbing process.’
