Celebrating Skill, Discipline, and Tradition in Mumbai

Mumbai witnessed an electrifying showcase of martial arts excellence at the Martial Arts Championship 2024, hosted by the Indian Institute of Martial Arts (IIMA) at AFAC High School, Chembur. This annual event brought together martial arts enthusiasts from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Uran, and Panvel, celebrating diverse categories like Kata, Kumite, and traditional weaponry including Lathi Kathi.


SUPR Kid Martial Arts Program Steals the Show

Trained by the SUPR Kid Martial Arts Program, participants from Powai showcased their prowess, winning medals across multiple categories. This after-school initiative offers a holistic approach to child development, blending health, fitness, mental agility, and personal growth.

SUPR Kid participants secured accolades in various events, earning a trophy for their collective performance. Medalists included Aariz Kazi, Shaurya Kadam, Pranit Chavan, Kunal Chavan, Daksh Balkhande, Anay Prabhu, Rudra Parashar, Vihaanya Joshi, Aahaana Thakur, Siara Khanna, Vihaan Khanna, Aarav Shah, Harsh Sharma, Krishangh Tondon, and Nitika Balkhande, from schools like Nahar International, Hiranandani Foundation School, Pawar Public School, A.M Naik School and Podar International School, Powai.

Girl Power Takes Center Stage

The highlight of the event was the stellar performance of girls. Siara Khanna from Nahar Amrit Shakti clinched gold in Kumite, while Nitika Balkhande from L&T Emerald Isle triumphed with a gold in Kata, a silver in Kumite, and a merit medal in the Lathi Kathi category.

Distinguished Presence

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Adv. Ishwarlal S. Agarwal, a prominent advocate in the High Court and Supreme Court of India, whose words of encouragement emphasized the values of discipline and perseverance. Also present was Mr. Gurunath Mithbavkar, a senior politician, along with corporate leaders Mr. Anil Pandey, Chief Revenue Officer - Health & Wellness at RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, and Mr. Vaibhav Goyal, an IIT Madras alumnus and Co-founder of Predixion AI. Their motivational addresses inspired participants and reinforced the importance of dedication, resilience, and personal growth in achieving success.

Recognizing Experts

The occasion highlighted the presence of Mahesh Atale, an acclaimed Mallakhamb expert, recognized for mentoring numerous national and international athletes and contributing significantly to the traditional Indian sport.

The event also welcomed Sensei Yatish Bangera, Director of the Bombay Judo Club, and a revered figure in the martial arts domain. Sensei Bangera, a holder of a 7th Degree Black Belt accredited by the Judo Federation of India and the International Judo Federation, has served as an International Referee, officiating in prestigious global judo tournaments. His expertise and insights added great value to the event, further motivating the young martial artists.

This blend of influential figures and experts created an inspiring atmosphere, elevating the significance of the championship and leaving a lasting impression on participants and attendees alike.

Under the guidance of Acharya Ravindra Manjrekar, founder of IIMA, the championship continues to honor and promote traditional martial arts. Acharya Manjrekar’s dedication has been pivotal in preserving these ancient skills since 1986. The Martial Arts Championship 2024 not only celebrated competition but also emphasized holistic growth and cultural appreciation, inspiring young athletes to reach greater heights.
