‘Panne’ should be completely unique to the ‘Emergency’ movie as I am guessing from their title.

‘Panne’ VS ‘Emergency’: Two periodic drama releasing on same dates

Panne’ VS ‘Emergency

Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Emergency’ is a biopic periodic drama based on India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi’s life events. On the other hand, New York-based filmmaker Ram Alladi’s film ‘Panne’ is fiction story periodically based in the time of India’s Independence movement and post-Independence era. Both the films are releasing on 6th of September 2024.

Talking about same-day release, Ram Alladi said, “Every movie product is unique and will have their own set of lovers. ‘Panne’ should be completely unique to the ‘Emergency’ movie as I am guessing from their title. And as I said earlier ‘Panne’ is totally a fictional plot. So, both the movies should serve differently. My film is not centralized on any character. All the characters are equally required to narrate the story. So, the story is the boss in my film and every element including me are the servants to help the story narration.”

Apart from releasing on the same day, both films have few more similarities. In Emergency, Kangana Ranaut is not just playing leading lady of the film but she has also co-produced and directed the film. Similarly, Ram Alladi has written-directed and produced the film ‘Panne’.

It’s very strong and common belief of Entertainment Industry’s who’s who that if you have faces (Famous actors) in the movie they work as crowed puller to get good opening to the film. ‘Emergency’ has a big star cast like Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. On other hand ‘’Panne’ has emerging Indian talents Kalpana Tiwari, Pankaj Munshi, Anand Rangarajan, Vijaya Posala, Silpa Das, Prasad Kamalanabha, and Sam Mukherjeerjee.

“There were many films released after ‘Moghal-E-Azam’ which is a cult blockbuster of Indian cinema. If we think only big known faces should work to do business in movies, we wouldn’t have any new movies at all. Every movie has its own identity with their content only not by face values. For a storytelling medium story is the King and not the faces who play the roles for that story. Especially since we are in a situation where face values are leading to the nepotism path. And that path is dumping the projects into trash economically. I am talking about especially PAN movies, with literally no sense of story line but big faces with unrelated VFX. The concept of PAN India movies has become a huge economic loss to the industry for several years. So, when the story comes to frontline, any face should serve the story to the audiences. Look at the example of the recent blockbuster movie ‘Lapata Ladies’. We hardly see known faces. But it’s a big hit,” Ram Alladi concluded, asserting that he doesn’t have fear of star power but has belief in his storytelling.
