Many dream of making it big in Mumbai, the home to Bollywood, but very few dream of becoming filmmakers, and even fewer dream of breaking the shackles and moving to an even more challenging landscape – Hollywood. One such filmmaker is Sonia Bajaj from Mumbai, who took the path less taken by making movies in America. Bajaj has directed, produced and written multiple award-winning films that have screened at global top-tier film festivals.
Bajaj’s latest short film, ‘Welcome to Klyde’s Kitchen’ brings forth a powerful story of compassion and self-discovery. Starring renowned Hollywood actor Beau Bridges alongside his son, Ezekiel Bridges, the film captures the essence of love, respect, and the human connection that transcends circumstances. Before the shoot, Bajaj discovered Bridges' star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a moment that reassured her of his immense talent and contribution to her film. Bridges' portrayal of Paul elevated the film to new heights, leaving a lasting impact.
The story revolves around Joshua (Ezekiel Bridges), a privileged young man reluctantly performing community service at a homeless center. As the story unfolds, the audiences witness Joshua's transformation from indifference to compassion. Ezekiel Bridges delivers a remarkable performance, capturing the essence of the film's underlying message - the power of mutual respect. The manager of the homeless center, Durga, is played by Sana Saeed of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ fame. Saeed effortlessly portrays her character’s patience and compassion, resonating with audiences on a deeper level.
“The message of the film is universal,” says Bajaj. “Volunteers at homeless centers are heroes who help to provide for people who lack basic necessities of life. As Sana’s character Durga says in the film, it’s about caring for the forgotten.”
A key to the successful completion of ‘Welcome to Klyde’s Kitchen’ was the work of Atlanta-based screenwriter Phillip Bellury, who co-wrote this heartfelt story with Bajaj. Craig Miller, a seasoned Atlanta-based producer collaborated with Bajaj to put together an experienced team. Included on that team is editor, Cindy Parisotto, with multiple credits on TV shows for Tyler Perry and The Disney Channel. Music was composed by Jeff Garber, the composer on the popular Netflix series, ‘Virgin River.’ Executive Producers R.K. Bajaj and Vinay Bajaj as well as Co-Producers Phillip Bellury and Girish Chadha lent their invaluable expertise to the film and consistently demonstrated their exceptional skills from script to screen.
As the world eagerly awaits the release of ‘Welcome to Klyde's Kitchen,’ it is certain that this heartfelt short film will leave a lasting impression, reminding us all of the power of kindness and the rewards found in serving the homeless.
