In an industry like music and entertainment, which is already highly saturated and has cut-throat competition; individuals work relentlessly to make it huge and create their unique niche to stand apart, which is definitely not a cakewalk. Especially, if someone doesn’t come from such a background and literally has no training whatsoever. However, a few rare gems have still been able to do that. They have shown what it really takes to become the best in the industry and have inspired many others as well. When it comes to such idols, modern-day icons like Mitrashankar promptly come to mind. His growing followers and fans across social media and streams across music platforms are proof of his meteoric rise in the industry.
Mitrashankar told us that his music is often described as catchy and upbeat with a melodious touch in them. While listening to what this talented artist has to offer, we agree! Each song has its own flavour that is loved by his fans. His songs are meticulously chosen by him which without fail strikes the right chord with the audience. When we asked about the methodology that he uses to create his signature sound, Mitra told us that he aims for every song to stand out in some way; whether it's through the customized lyrics penned by him, unique mashups of old and new melodies, or having an unplugged feel. But above all he says the most important thing is to ‘sing with your heart’ – which coincidentally is the tagline of his YouTube channel as well. The musical character and his methodology are in full display in his latest gift to his fans, a cover version of the recent blockbuster song – Mere Yaara from the movie Sooryavanshi
A journey that started last year and coincided with the lockdown - He has belted 60+ cover songs in the challenging times of Covid. Coming from a small town in Assam to the capital 15 years ago, he had spent the last one and half decades grinding it out in the IT industry. With a full time and fledging career in Data Analytics, the lockdown presented him with an opportunity to pursue his passion with the additional time at hand. And boy did he put it in good use! Soon his channel and social media following started gaining momentum and there was no looking back. The numbers do support his gradual rise through the ranks as well. His channel has already garnered more than 8 million views over the past year and a combined followership of more than 50K across social media. An even mindboggling information he shares with us that he shoots, edits and creates all the videos by himself as well!
When we asked him about his journey, Mitrashankar said-"I think people relate to me because I am one of them. I am not a star or a big name. Just a common Indian man trying to follow his passion without expecting anything into return and just embracing the love people give me. All this feels surreal. I never even imagined 1000 views let alone 8 million views. This all is a dream.” About his musical choice he said “I am more into songs that make me connect with the audience, romance and old melodies is my favourite genre "But we should explore other genres too, you never get to know you're good at something unless you try it. Some tracks require you to be more versatile and bolder, so every road you take is an adventure worth feeling"
When asked what drove him towards the music industry and this young and talented guy says, “I want to be a symbol of the fact it’s never too late to do what your heart wants and try out things. I wish my journey is something that could stay with people for long, and something that could invoke the deepest feelings and emotions in them.” He says music was where he found his peace and now makes sure that his songs help people find their peace.
Mitrashankar is looking forward to experimenting more with his style and see what is the taste of the Indian audience. With one eye towards creating an original album in near future and another towards connecting individually with each and every one of his listeners, we are sure that he will be a household name soon and a darling of the masses.
