Audiovisual Content Creator Josh Menon’s Glittering Dream Pop Track

Josh Menon

The rise of social media and an increased accessibility to software/equipment for home studios are two of the factors that have had a huge impact on modern music, giving rise to a wave of incredibly talented independent artists who aren’t afraid to try something new. One such talent is Josh Menon, whose growing fan base can’t get enough of his genre-bending sound.

Josh Menon is a Bangalorean indie pop/alternative artist based in Los Angeles who has perfected a distinctive sonic formula, exploring various genres and endless possibilities to create a sound that knows no boundaries. From the energy of modern indie-pop to the rich melodies of R&B, anything goes.

Vulnerable and Sophisticated

The artist’s latest single is a follow-up to his groovy indie-pop tune “July” that came out last summer. “Uglyboy,” is as quirky as the title suggests, and it shines as a glittering dream pop track that oozes sophistication. With surprisingly vulnerable and self-aware lyrics, flawless musical arrangement, and colorful rhythms – the song combines musical optimism and lyrical pessimism in a modern search for self.

Featuring a distorted lead that feels vintage, and a tinge of hip-hop that feels modern, “Uglyboy” makes for an interesting listen from start to finish. The song erupts two thirds of the way through, with the vocals becoming suddenly passionate, and every instrumental layer combining for a fuller, more explosive final quarter. The immersive and memorable latter half establishes a clear emotional connection to the storyline.

The track has an energetic drive to it, but at the same time it feels quite atmospheric and somewhat haunting. This is especially caused by the sprawling ambient tones and synth-driven soundscapes that make the arrangement so special. Both Josh Menon and Ovvl Eyes showcase their chemistry and ability to create synergy with a fantastic song that highlights each other’s perks and strengths.

Perhaps a slow burner but even more likeable in being so – “Uglyboy” proves to be a catchy and addictive alternative hit that leaves us wanting to press repeat. We’re sure you’ll love this one. Josh Menon is a perfect example of an artist who doesn’t hide behind studio trickery to impress, but rather goes to great lengths to let his true personality shine through.

Man of Many Talents

Josh is also an experienced filmmaker, and his latest music video for “Pugwash” proves that he is a man of many talents. The video follows Menon as he makes his way around a desaturated office, looking for an escape from the coworkers that follow his every step. Much like with the song “Uglyboy,” the intensity of this music video also continuously rises. Josh features a masterful use of color, shot composition, and quick pacing to take the viewers on a journey that becomes increasingly immersive and claustrophobic.

Josh Menon’s music is going to be a very exciting new discovery for fans of modern indie pop music in general, especially if you also like personal lyrics, as his work reveals various influences along those lines. Stay tuned to discover what the multi-talented musician and filmmaker has up his sleeve for the next project!
