Do you know, there are an estimated 3.1 quadrillion gallons of water in the atmosphere at any given time? Yes, that’s a fact. Our atmosphere contains such a mammoth mass of water in the form of tiny water droplets and humidity that it is more than enough to take care of India's water needs. To put it in perspective, the amount of water in the atmosphere roughly equals to all the water in Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area, and the third-largest freshwater lake by volume.

Much of this is untapped, but new technology looks to harness this vast reservoir and ensure its put to good use. Recently, Gurugram-based Aryav AWG’s is attempting to produce fresh, potable water through its range of innovative Atmospheric Water Generators (AWG).

The company was founded by Sanjay Kumar Garg, Natwar Dhuwalia and Bharat Bhushan Kapoor in 2017, is solving water challenges. The startup has built an Atmospheric Water Generator (AWG) machine which can make water from air.
The company's innovative solution called 'Aryav AWG' produces 100 per cent microbe-free potable water by using the water vapour present in the air.
The company’s solutions are the most effective and economical way to solve the pressing issue of drinking water scarcity in any location and at any time, and also enable the elimination of carbon-intensive supply chains and environmentally-harmful plastic waste.
Its innovative technology taps into the atmosphere – an unlimited, freely-available resource – to provide drinking water to people everywhere, from the most remote rural village communities to commercial office buildings to private homes.
How Aryav AWG works?
The most abundant source of freshwater is the Earth's atmosphere. When atmospheric humidity condenses, it falls as rain. AWG replicates this natural process of condensation by simulating the dew point, which allows it to make water continuously, even in low humidity conditions.
In short, Aryav AWG works on condensation and refrigeration processes. Air is being sucked by the blower, which passes through the heat exchanger and then to the compressor. Water droplets are collected in the bottom tank which further go through the multistage filtration process and collected in Top Tank which is UV filtered further. From the top tank you can dispense the pure, clean, alkaline, mineral water.
What is unique about Aryav ’s AWG technology and process?
We are different from our competitors as we are energy efficient as we are using dual heat exchanger before compressor and also using double walled compressor which makes our system more energy efficient and can work at higher ambient temperature. For the same process, our patents get granted.
How much will be the popularity of this technology in India?
This concept is catching up as there are lots of areas, where there is no ground water and people are migrating because of non availability of piped or ground water. These machines works wonder over there. The Government of India is also recognizing this technology and wanted it to be promote to get the drinking water. In South India, this concept is already well perceived, and globally also people are using this technology and extracting water.
Is water vapour an unlimited source?
In this blue planet, more than 79 percent is water, although only 0.5 per cent water is available for drinking purposes for humans, birds and animals. There is no dearth of water vapours, as this is an unlimited resource like solar radiations to generate solar Power.
The natural system does not cause any imbalances in the atmosphere as all the removed water vapour is naturally replenished with water evaporated from the ocean and other water bodies.
Will it work in dry areas?
This technology works on moisture in air principle. Need minimum 30- 35% RH level to operate the machines. However higher the humidity, more yield will be there and this machine will work as dehumidifier in those areas also.
