Wayanad landslide: Over 143 people dead, Rescue operation underway

 The death toll due to the deadly Wayanad landslide has risen to 143 as of Wednesday, July 31st. Many people are injured and several are still trapped, and rescue efforts are underway in Wayanad`s Chooralmala. The landslides have caused severe damage, destroying homes, swelling water bodies, and uprooting trees. The villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha are isolated, leaving many people stranded. Reports say that more than 50 bodies were found in the Chaliyar river, several kilometers downstream, and are now being kept at the Government Hospital in Nilambur. Families are struggling to find their loved ones, and the situation is dire. The locals of the tragedy hit area recounted the horror. A heavy flood like situation persists in Assam`s Nagaon. Floods in Assam have so far claimed 46 lives. According to the flood report of Assam State DisasterManagement Authority (ASDMA), 8 people died in the last 24 hours in the state including 2 in Sonitpur district, one each in Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Darrang, Golaghat, Biswanath and Tinsukia district, taking the total death toll to 46 while 3 others are missing. The overall flood situation in the state is still critical as over 16.25 lakh people of 29 districts have been affected by the second wave of flood. More than 25 villages have been affected and the flood waters submerged 1099.5 hectares of crop area.
