Couple jumps to death in front of train


Pune: This A 25-year-old man and his 18-year-old girlfriend committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train in Pune during the wee hours, on Tuesday. The couple's identity was revealed after the police found a mobile phone from the spot.


The man has been identified as Tiwari (25) (his second name is not known), a resident of Kharghar, and the girl has been identified as Rajani Singh (18) from Pimpri, Pune.


The incident took place on the Kasarwadi-Pimpri railway track. Both were found in a pool of blood on the railway tracks and were rushed to the hospital; but they were declared death. The post mortem is being carried out at Pimpri Chinchwad based Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.

A case of accidental death has been registered with Pune railway station police and the case is being investigated.

Senior Inspector Sanjay Satav in-charge of Pune railway police station said, "The incident took place around 6.30 am on Tuesday. We suspect the suicide is an outfall of a love relationship. We identified the couple based on Tiwari’s mobile handset. Tiwari’s full name is yet to be traced while the girl’s father, who runs a tourist business, has identified the body. She was pursuing her first year in Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) in Chinchwad based college."

Inspector Vijaykumar Palsule, in-charge of Nigdi police station, said, "Rajani’s parents had approached us on Monday late night and alerted us that their girl went missing since 6 pm. But they did not provide us pictures or any documents and they suspected that their daughter might be with Tiwari. We were probing the case by then this unfortunate incident happened."
