The accused allegedly raped and murdered an 11-year-old school girl in Khutbav village of Yewat taluka, about 50 km from Pune on Friday. The sketch was 90 per cent accurate and was made on the basis of description provided by four students from nearby school, who had seen him in the area.
The accused, identified as Nitin alias Kalu Narayan Kadam, is a resident of Nathachiwadi, located about 2.5 km from the spot where the incident took place. Local police informed that Kadam is a labourer and was cutting grass near a sugarcane field when he spotted the girl.
“The victim was on her way to home after her classes and was walking on a small road near sugarcane fields,” said superintendent of police, Manoj Lohiya. Upon spotting her walking alone, Kadam whisked her to a deserted area and raped her.
When she threatened that that she would inform her mother, an enraged Kadam strangulated her with her necktie and removed her gold earrings before fleeing the spot, Lohiya said. The victim left from her school at around 10.30 am and when she didn’t return home for a long time, her parents started looking for her. They later found her murdered near sugarcane fields. The accused was handed over to the policewhen some villagers spotted him.
