It's finally here! WhatsApp has enabled the long-awaited mentions feature for Group Chats in which users in a large WhatsApp Group can actually individually tag a specific person during chats. The may come as a huge sigh of relief for users in a large family or office group.

The new feature can be done in two simple steps:
- Type the @ symbol inside a group chat.
- Tap the name of the person you need to mention and then send your message

The feature is available in both iOS and Android versions of WhatsApp

In August, WhatsApp attracted controversy by announcing its updated global privacy policy, under which it will now share phone numbers of users with its parent company, Facebook. Privacy advocates had raised concerns that Facebook would start mining WhatsApp accounts for data.

But the feature wasn't mandatory and users were given options to easily avoid it.

WhatsApp's decision to share user data with parent company Facebook today reached the doorsteps of Delhi High Court, which sought the government's response on the modification.
