Did Virat Kohli win the toss in Wednesday's Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium? Going by the scorecard, yes. But a peek at the toss footage, it is pretty clear that his opposite number Upal Tharanga called it right.

Watch the full video below.

The footage shows Tharanga tossing the coin and commentator Murali Kartik saying, "heads is the call" to indicate Kohli had won it. But when Kartik starts to interview Kohli, match referee Andy Pycroft gesticulates to indicate that there is some confusion. It does seem by the footage that the coin fell on the opposite side to what Kohli called.

Kartik continued with his pre-match chat with the Indian captain and it appeared that it was too late to do something about it. Kohli decided to field and ended up winning the match to end an undefeated tour. It could be that Kartik didn't hear Pycroft correctly before he uttered, "heads is the call."

If there was mix-up, then Pycroft ought to have corrected the wrong even at the cost of a bit of embarrassment for all concerned in the centre.
