After an affair goes sour, the 40-year-old accused allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from the man and threatened to reveal their relationship to his wife
The Navghar police have arrested a bar girl for threatening and extorting money from a 49-year-old BMC engineer with whom she was allegedly having an affair. According to the police, the ordeal started a ago back when she demanded a sum of Rs 20 lakh from the engineer and threatened to tell the his wife about the affair if he refused to pay up.

The 40-year-old woman, identified as Neelam Chauhan, a divorcee who stays in Bhayandar with her two sons. An officer from Navghar police station revealed: “The engineer, along with his friends, had been to a farmhouse in Alibaug on a trip. There they had called Neelam and her friend Anu, who is also a bar girl. The engineer and the girl shared their contact numbers and eventually got involved in a physical relationship.”
The officer added that the engineer had helped her financially for her son’s education and she also started a shop in Kandivli with his help. But things turned ugly post January when Neelam took to alcohol and started demanding more money from him. When he eventually put his foot down, she allegedly started stalking him. She even managed to acquire his Call Data Records (CDR) and trace him to Lonavala, where he was vacationing with his family, and threatened to harm his wife.
This scared the engineer, who confessed everything to his wife and the couple then registered a case against her at Navghar police station.
A police officer then called Neelam through the engineer and on the pretext of handing over the money, arrested her from Mulund East on Wednesday. The accused has been booked under section 384 (extortion) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance) of the Indian Penal Code and has been remanded to police custody. The cops are still on the lookout for her accomplice Ramesh Kadam, with whom she had planned the extortion.
