A 30-year-old man from Asangaon lost his life during a drunken brawl at Thane Railway Station. During a fight, the man tried to flee his attackers by jumping onto the tracks, but an approaching train ran over him. The victim tried to climb back onto the platform, but could not beat the train’s speed.


According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the accident occurred around 9.30 pm on October 27. The victim has been identified as Rahul Musde. The Mirror report revealed that Musde and two of his friends, who had drinks at a nearby bar, picked up a fight with some hawkers outside the station.

The paper further reported that an argument ensued between the drunk men, and a vendor selling toy guns. “Musde tried walking away with the toy without paying for it, resulting in an argument. The hawker returned with seven others and they chased Musde and his friends. While Musde’s friends ran towards a foot overbridge, the victim jumped on the tracks when he realised a train was approaching. He was run over while he attempted to get back on to the platform (number 2),” an officer from Thane Nagar Police Station told Mumbai Mirror.

Police further told Mumbai Mirror said that Musde’s friends were so drunk that they didn’t realise he had died. Senior Inspector Dalvi from the Thane GRP informed the paper, “An accidental death report has been registered. We recovered the victim’s mobile phone and traced his friends. The case has been transferred to the Thane Police who have already booked the hawkers.”

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, an officer from Thane Nagar Police Station further informed. “We have registered a case of rioting against the hawkers. The CCTV footage is being examined and we are speaking to the witnesses. He, however added that action could be taken against Musde's friends as well. "Prima facie, the victim and his friends started the brawl,” the cop concluded.
