Nalasopara cops have nabbed a serial con artiste who duped ten women of a crore by posing as a candidate on a matrimonial site. The con job came to light after the crook’s latest victim, a 42-year-old Nalasopara resident, complained to the cops about Chandrasen Devkate alias Prajval Deshmuk, 30, who had duped her of R8.59 lakh on the pretext of marriage.
"Impressed with Devkate’s profile on the site – he claimed to be working for Reliance – the woman exchanged numbers with him. Soon, Devkate started asking her for money. But, after a while, he stopped taking her calls" a cop said.
On Sunday, the cops nabbed Devkate from Thane, where he lives with his wife and a kid. "He confessed to his crimes. He has duped around ten women and amassed Rs 1 crore," said additional SP Rajtilak Roshan from Palghar district.
