“My sister was one of the strongest personalities and to even remotely think that she would do any bodily harm to herself is preposterous and should not be believed,” Rajesh Pushkar said in a statement.
“To think that my brother-in-law (union minister Shashi Tharoor) would do any harm to her is unimaginable,” Pushkar said.
“I have been with both Shashi and my sister throughout their journey together and can say with utmost confidence that they were a couple madly in love with each other.”
“Differences, if any, were momentary and do happen in every household, and we do not believe they have any bearing on the incident,” he added.
He also described his sister as an “angel at heart” but too often, prone to impulsively say things that she did not mean but then would withdraw them later.
Sunanda’s son Shiv Menon had also issued a similar statement on January 21, saying that his mother was a strong woman and Tharoor couldn’t have harmed her.
Sunanda’s death came a couple of days after an open spat on Twitter that threw spotlight on the couple’s personal life and Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.
The autopsy report has attributed her death to poisoning due to drug overdose. Sources termed the injury marks on her body as “scuffle marks”.
Pushkar, in his statement, also mentioned that he and his family have been deeply disturbed at the “slanderous statements” made in the media regarding the demise of his sister, due to which they were issuing the statement.
He also made a request for the speedy completion of the investigation in the case.
The case of Sunanda Pushkar was transferred to Delhi Crime Branch on Thursday.
