The trailer of Sui Dhaaga: Made In India was unveiled at a grand scale in Mumbai’s iconic Yash Raj Films Studio today. The auditorium was also decorated with handlooms and manually crafted embroidered art-work, to go along with the theme of the film. While there were several speculations about the film’s plot, the trailer has made it very clear that the film is based on a couple’s journey – Mauji and Mamta, essayed by Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, respectively.

After watching the trailer, while one may think that Varun and Anushka is an apt casting for the film, there’s a story behind these people coming on board. Did you know, both, Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma had initially rejected the film? Talking about it at the trailer launch, Varun Dhawan said he did not have dates to shoot for this film. However, the Badlapur actor confessed that after hearing the script he was extremely moved, and adjusted his schedule to work on this project.
“When I got the script, I didn't have any time to go any film. I told Aditya Chopra sir I don't have dates, I'm shooting for Kalank. But when I read the script, I was bowled over. I love family films. I read this and I thought I cannot leave this film. I have to become Mauji. ‘Roti ke laale pad gaye the but bahut kaam karvaya.’
Actress Anushka Sharma also declined the film because she did not have faith in herself to play Mamta. "When Sharat came to me with the script, I was excited to read it. I had seen his previous film and had loved it. When I read 'Sui Dhaaga', I loved the script and what they were trying to do with the story. I loved that Yash Raj was making the film but still, I said no at first. I could not understand how I would play this character. I always wanted to challenge myself as an actor but this was differing with my personality on another level. So I was afraid and I told him I don't think I can do this character."
Anushka also says that only reason she agreed to do the film is that the film's director and producer had faith in her. "Maneesh and Sharat were extremely convinced that I am the right person to play this character. Sharat even visited my house and he told me how he sees the character and why he thinks I am actually the perfect fit.
"To be honest, I went with his faith in me more than my own faith in myself. And I am so happy that I actually did the film, and I am so proud that I have played this character," said Anushka.
The National Award-winning, dream-team of director Sharat Kataria and producer Maneesh Sharma team up again for Yash Raj Films' entertainer Sui Dhaaga - Made in India that is set to release on September 28 this year, just before Gandhi Jayanti.
