Some term it Bollywood’s eternal joke and to superstar Salman Khan’s family, it is a silly question they can’t dodge at every function, but Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor is set to lose the tag. The man who had once announced, “Marriage is doubtful, but I want two-three kids... having kids without marriage is difficult, but I hope I will be able to manage that...” will reportedly tie the knot on November 18, coinciding with his parents, Salim and Salma Khan’s wedding anniversary.
Those close to the Khandaan suggest it will be a private affair and preparations are already underway. But, Salman, who is currently shooting for Kabir Khan’s Tubelight in Manali, has a bigger issue to address. Iulia has hurriedly left for home country, Romania, to complete formalities for visa renewal as it expires in November. Salman is believed to be pulling strings to make sure that she gets a residency permit.
Says an insider, “Since there are no set rules for foreigners to ask for Indian citizenship, Iulia will have to obtain residency that will be renewed from time to time. Citizenship is granted as an exception and the authorities need strong recommendations, so Salman is trying his best. He will be back in town tonight and look into the matter.”
The star’s younger brother, actor-producer Sohail Khan chooses to remain diplomatic on Salman’s impending wedding. “Salman Bhai ki shaadi kab hogi is a question that comes back to haunt us even in our sleep. He is a grown-up and will marry when he has to. The world has been asking him this question for the last 15 years. If he hasn’t succumbed to the pressure yet, he won’t now. He is the most eligible bachelor and his every movement is monitored by fans and paparazzi. If anything happens, the media will find out before our family does,” says Sohail.
If there is no wedding, why is the November 18 date specifically doing the rounds? “This has always been the case. Inshallah, he will marry when he wants to. He has had ex-girlfriends and has one now, but he feels that whenever he decides the day, he wouldn’t want such pomp, show and noise around it. He will do it quietly and will be careful about it,” adds Sohail.
