The company, which is the two-wheeler arm of Eicher Motors, has introduced the model in Delhi after the state transport department agreed to register new models of two-wheelers compliant with Bharat Stage (BS)-III emission norms launched in the capital prior to April 1.
Himalayan is available in two signature colour options- Granite and Snow and is open for bookings across all Royal Enfield dealerships across Delhi, the company said in a statement.
"The timing of the launch in Delhi could not have been better as all motorcycling enthusiasts in the region start frequenting the hills post Holi. We are very confident that with its simple design and versatile performance, the Himalayan will inspire confidence amongst the amateur motorcyclists," Royal Enfield President Rudratej Singh said.
At the same time, seasoned riders will appreciate the motorcycle's purpose-built features and attributes in terrains that have inspired the Himalayan, he added.
Himalayan comes with a five-speed gearbox and 24.5 BHP engine. The company would also sell accessories to go with the bike which has a ground clearance of 210 mm. It is the first model to be built on the two new engine platforms the company is developing. Multiple products could be launched on the two new engine platforms. The new products would be in the range of 250 cc to 750 cc.
The launch would help the company further consolidate its position to become a leading player in the mid-sized (250 cc-750 cc) segment globally.
Earlier this month, the company had launched the model in various states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, among others.
