Having dinner at a five-star proved to be a nightmare for a Pune couple. On their way out of the JW Marriott, they could not find their Mercedes Benz, worth Rs 85 lakh, that they had parked there.

Pritam Rajesh Kinra (37), a resident of Manhattan society at Baner Road in Pune, lodged a case of theft against an unidentified person with Chaturshringi police station. On July 29, at around 9.30 pm, she and her husband had dinner and around 12 am, she found their car missing. While inspecting the CCTV footage, a person was seen driving away in it.

Inspector Dayanand Dhome of Chaturshringi police station said, “The incident took place at around 10.20 pm. The suspect went to the basement, and buzzed the key in the first zone, but none of the cars’ lights blinked. He was standing there for some 10 minutes. Later, he moved to the second zone of basement parking, and when he again buzzed the keys, the Mercedes Benz’s responded. He drove the car out. The hotel employees helped him drive it out.”

He added, “The car was taken in the direction of Chaturshringi Road. We are inspecting the CCTV footage of nearby areas and soon we shall zero in on the culprit.”

Mallika Chatterjee, Director sales and marketing head, JW Marriott, said, “There was an incident that transpired within our hotel premises on Friday night. Since the matter is under investigation, we shall not be able to divulge any facts, however, all support and cooperation will be extended to the authorities.”
