Yet another story of a self-proclaimed godman who misused his position to exploit an unsuspecting victim — this time in Pune — has surfaced. According to the allegations made by a 20-year-old Pune student, she was raped by the accused, the so-called doctor and godman, under the pretext of giving medicines for her mother.

‘Gave me special chocolates’
The accused runs the Siddha Shakthi Kundalini Meditation Trust International, which is headquartered in Pune and has 44 centers in Mumbai, Nashik, New Delhi, Goa along with some in Oman, Muscat, Dubai, USA, Singapore and Australia.

The victim claims, “My mother is suffering from back pain, due to which she is bedridden. On September 9, my cousin sister told me about Chauhan, and he asked me to visit him on September 13. After that initial meeting, he called on September 21 at his resident-cum-mediation centre in Chinchwad to give me some medicines for her. He asked me to come to his room and after I went there, he told me to give her the medicines he gave and asked her to attend a healing session. However, as I was leaving, he also offered me some chocolates that he claimed he had specially prayed on.”

However, according to the survivor, “After consumption, I fell unconscious. When I woke up, it was late evening and I found myself in another room,” she said, adding, “I realised that I had been physically abused and assaulted. I went to question him, but he threatened me that no one will do anything to him as he is revered, well connected to the media and has political ties.”

Action taken
The incident came to light, when the victim, unable to come to terms with her situation, finally gathered courage and approached the Nigdi police station in Pune on Saturday. Based on her grievances, he was arrested under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code comprising rape (376), causing hurt by means of poison (328) and punishment of criminal intimidation (506). On Sunday, he was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) and has been remanded to police custody till October 20.

Police Speak
Vijaykumar Palsule, inspector in-charge of Nigdi police station, said, “He claimed that he is a doctor and also a godman who has been running the healing centre since 1998. After the victim approached us, we rushed her to a hospital. Meanwhile a team went to arrest Chauhan, but his followers did not let us see him. So we raided the premise and arrested him. During our search operation, we found various pornography CDs, pictures, condoms, drugs and sex toys.” He added, “The entire premises is covered with CCTV cameras so we will check with all his followers and also appeal to other victims to come forward if they have been wronged. We have also recovered his medical degree certificate, but we are verifying it. If they turn out to be bogus, then we will also be slapping additional charges against him.”
